Early in the morning, I tiptoe down into my living room. Every now and then, a little songbird perches on one of the knotty branches right by my back door. It takes a break—but not for long. In a little while, it flies off again, aimlessly, with no idea where it will end up tonight. It lets itself be carried by the wind and its devotion to the present moment.
